Gone with the Week

I should have titled this post, “Gone with the Months” since these photos are all the way from the start of the semester to this past week. I can not believe how crazy busy/awesome this semester has been. The first couple weeks started off a little rough but it has been all up hill from there. Spring sing practices, Saturday morning IHOP runs, late night baking, Friday night girls night, Tea Tuesday, new Bible studies, and daily conversations and time with friends is so much fun. I absolutely love college. In fact, I do not want the semester to end. At all.

Anyways, enough of that first year freshmen giddiness (I’m hoping I still feel this way senior year…), and on to some “what I’ve been up to” photos:

gww3

1. The first function of the semester for my club was “Painting with a Twist.” Aka, a really artsy person tried to guide us through the steps of painting a perfect sunset…it never turns out like they do it but it was still a lot of fun!

gww4

2. My club jersey finally came in! Now every Friday I can proudly show my love for  Chi Omega Pi.

3. This sticky note is right above my bed and I read it every single day. It is God’s constant reminder to me and my tendency toward anxiety. I love seeing such a precious promise every time I go to sleep and wake up. #Jesuscalling

gww2

4. Sometimes when we have spring sing practice at 9:00 AM on a Saturday mornings, we reward ourselves with IHop and a trip to Wal-Mart afterwards. I love my friends.

5. I didn’t think I would get anything for Valentines Day (except from my Dad because he always remembers his girls!) and I ended the day with some very sweet gifts. Needless to say, even without the gifts, this was hands down the best Valentines Day yet. Not to mention we had a chocolate and She’s the Man movie night. (In case the picture didn’t answer your question, my favorite candy is Reeses.)

6. My verse for the semester. My mom reminded me of that verse over break and I didn’t think much of it till I got back to school and realized how serious it is. It too is on a sticky note by my bed and has been a great reminder and comfort to always, always guard my heart.

My only complaint of this semester? I am so. so. so. so. so. sick of cafeteria food. It gets progressively worse everyday. Instead of craving sweets like normal, I just crave a real meal- like an identifiable piece of meat, or something without the word “fried’ in it, or just something healthy other than salad with crappy dressing on it. I pretty much eat baked or mashed potatoes at every meal and milk and whatever odd piece of protein I can find…and veggies if they aren’t labeled “mixed greens” and resemble cow throw up. If I could, I would just make a sandwich everyday but they don’t have gluten free bread.

Ok, I digress.

Happy Thursday!!!

What fun facts do you have about your week?

Sweaters and Pep Talks

Last night, as I was taking a break from homework, I was sitting on my bed enjoying some cafeteria food (ha!), watching old TV episodes of Bewitched (featuring my favorite, Elizabeth Montgomery), and I decided to get crafty. As many of you have probably seen, leg warmers under your boots are popping up everywhere. I had seen some Pinterest ideas of how to use and old sweater and make leg warmers, so I went for it.

I know there is a more formal way of completing the project (like, with a sewing machine) but all I did was cut off the sleeves.

leg1

I started with an old sweater from my freshmen year of high school. Then I simply cut the sleeves off, right below the arm pits.

leg3

And there you go, leg warmers- just in time for Sunday church.

With the leftover sweater, I cut it up a bit more and made an “infinity” [circle] scarf.

So, whenever you are in need of a Saturday night homework procrastinating project, look no further.

Also, since tomorrow is Monday and this week does not look to promising, I have two short videos you MUST watch to start your week.

This little girls “interview” completely melted my heart. And I have watched it at least five times.

Secondly, this little boy might just give you enough energy to skip the morning cup of coffee. Just watch and see…

What is your trick to a happy Monday?

Semester Numero Two

Whoa. What a start to my second semester of college. I’m not going to lie, this semester started off noticeably harder than last semester. I got sick the second week and am still fighting off a sinus infection, classes are considerable harder (and more boring) than last semester, and I learned sometimes you must have tough conversations with people and these conversations could result in a good or bad fashion.

On the bright side, for Martin Luther King Day, I managed to plan a hiking trip and eighteen people came! It was a lot of fun and I wanted to sit at the top for hours (or forever). Afterwards, we went to went to Buffalo Wild Wings and refueled from the trek.

It’s been quite chilly here so I have been wearing my new blue coat (from Christmas) quite often. I snapped this picture today in class as I realized I was wearing a blue coat, carrying a blue purse, and eating a blue breakfast.

Tonight I made myself skip out on the usual Friday festivities (read: movie night) and camp out at Starbucks. This week I have:

Four tests.

Three musical practices.

Two hours of observing at an elementary school.

One paper due.

(And a partridge in a pear treeeeee) ;)

s2(5)

I just finished writing my five-page paper so I rewarded myself with a long over due blog post. The paper was my educational autobiography so I actually enjoyed writing it. Plus, anything is better than working on 350 biology review questions.

I am slightly unsure of which test to start studying for since they all promise to be difficult. I’m not trying to rush life, but I really think I will be glad for this week to be over. My club has a painting function on Friday that I’m going to (with a blind date…what have I got myself into?) so that is my reward for the end of the week!

Have a Fabulous First week of February.

For all you other organizer junkies:

This is my organization wall. AKA I forgot to complete a math assignment, got a zero, freaked out, and created a reminder wall that will never let me forget to turn in an assignment again.

I’m off to spring musical practice till midnight….

Monday Funday

Two finals down. Three to go.

My two easiest finals were today so I’m not trying to be too confident but I think I did pretty well. (My Wednesday and Thursday finals might be a different story.) But you want to know what my motivation was the entire time?

Two Letters, from my sister, that I got in my mailbox that morning.

The outsides:

finals1 finals2

(The Turtle that Could is seriously making me cry tears of happiness.)

The insides:

finals4

(Yes, the clouds are made out of paper towels. It’s awesome.)

finals3

Precious right? I was grinning from ear to ear and after I was done re-reading the letters multiple times, I hung them up on my wall. Now I will wake up every morning with a smile on my face.

She is now accepting crafty card orders. Gotta make a living in college somehow! :)

Three days are left between me and Christmas break. Lets go.

Finals Fuel:

I like chocolate Christmas presents.  No this is not my seventh one, shhhh.

Holiday Ramblings

starbucks

This post is short and sweet because there are deadlines to meet. Finals looming next week cause feelings that only a skinny caramel latte can complete.

Starbucks Christmas Cups.

Holiday Concerts.

Tacky Christmas Sweaters.

Christmas music [everyday].

Holiday parties.

An excuse to be overly cheery everyday.

Yes, this is truly the best time of the year. And spending part of the holidays at my awesome college with fun new friends is the whipped cream to a perfectly frothed caramel latte.

Catch y’all on the other side.

Here’s some dorm room decoration inspiration for all the other professional decorators out there:

Please, don’t ask how I do it. One word: Talent.

Merry Christmas!

Gone with the Week

1. I never got around to posting about it, but for our July 4th party, I made S’mores on a Stick. Super easy and fun to make/eat.

2. When we were in Colorado, we came across this house covered in licence plates. It was pretty awesome.

3. A childhood favorite. On our way home from Colorado, we stopped at Sonic and I got the kid’s meal grilled cheese.

4. Best gluten-free bread, hands down.

5. I got my first very own sleeping bag (to use for college and beyond). But to make it even sweeter, I got a mummy bag!! I am totally excited to use it.

6. Another childhood favorite: Krispy Kreme doughnuts. I dragged my friend there a couple of weeks ago because I always pass it on the way to her house and then crave doughnuts for a couple of days.

7. You know whats even more fun than watching the Olympics? Reading about the nutrition behind the athletes. {You are what you eat}

8. I made kale chips to go with our BLT’s tonight. I loved them but my goal is to improve them so my dad likes them also. :)

9. Guess what else I got for college? CHACOS! Pretty much everyone at the college I am going to wears them so I’m so happy I will fit in now. ;)

10. I never got around to blogging about it, but my friend and I made hope chests a couple of weeks ago! We turned ugly yellow boxes into beautiful boxes with just some paper and modge podge. It was so much fun and I love how they turned out- much better than either of us thought they would!

What were some highlights of your week?

I’m off to go grab some frozen yogurt with a friend! Have a splendid night.

Crafts and Cooking

How was your Father’s Day Sunday? Ours was nice, relaxing, and yummy!

Remember how my friend is home from Germany? Well we spent Saturday together and one thing we did was make homemade cards for our dads. (Yes, we are eighteen going on eight.)

You see, I saw this card at Target I really wanted to get my dad but it was $3.00. So I decided to make it. And while I’m not the most artsy-crafty person and probably should color with markers instead of sharpers, it was fun to make and give.

Get it? It’s a picture of the world on the outside and on the inside is says, “It’s better cause you’re in it.” I thought it was quite original. (Okay, and I gave him a gift card to make up for the slightly sloppy looking card.)

I have hands down the best dad ever and I could never give him a gift to match the love and admiration I have for him. Happy Father’s Day, Dad!

I also made some amazing cookies and cream oreo fudge brownies this weekend to give to my friend cause they just got back. (Don’t worry, I taste tasted one two three.)

Grab the recipe right here. It’s super easy to make.

I also tried Which Wich Sandwiches for the first time and I loved it. Like, more than Subway. *gasp*

I got the vegetarian Tomato and Avocado and it was superb.

What is your favorite restaurant to grab a sandwich at?
